These comments literally baffle me. RB is basically tied for the Constructors after back to back disasters. Max gets car destroyed in both Silverstone and Hungary. Checo was out before it began in Silverstone due to the ridiculous sprint format. Then gets blasted by Bottas in Turn 1 last week….where btw he qualified 4th directly behind Max. Yet there they are basically tied for the title while also being 2nd and 5th in driver standings…all while Perez sits only 9 points out of 3rd. Can he improve the gap to Max, yes. And he’s doing that. Red Bull hasn’t been in this position in a long time….and Checo is a failure??? Crazy talk. He’s only gonna get better as this season continues, and tossing him aside without giving him next season to shine after he finally starts finding that edge week in/week out would be incredibly short sighted. He’s as good a number 2 to Max as any of the names listed (who let’s be real, all will have a year long learning curve in that RB). Moving away from Checo inevitability you take a temporary step back as that new driver gets up to speed. Does that make sense if winning now is the objective? Keep knee jerking guys outta that seat and you’ll never find your guy!! At some point RB has to show confidence in that number 2 pilot if they ever want consistent results. There literally is no better opportunity than now for them to do that. It’s a pivotal time for Horner and the crew and a pivotal decision. Now factor in the incredible teammate he’s shown to be and Max enjoys and respects him. They have the formula to beat Merc if they don’t get in there own way overthinking it. Again, I just don’t understand how people do not see breaking these two up after one season would be a complete mistake. Is there room for improvement, always….Has Checo underperformed ABSOLUTELY NOT!
